William Dock Walls Enters the Race for Chicago Mayor 2015
WHEN: 10:00 AM, Sunday August 24, 2014
WHERE: City Hall, 121 North LaSalle Street, Chicago 60601
William Dock Walls will officially announce his candidacy for Chicago Mayor 2015 on Sunday, August 24, 2014, at 10:00 AM outside of City Hall, 121 North LaSalle Street. Walls, a political and community activist, served as Confidential Assistant to the late Mayor Harold Washington. Walls also served as the main Illinois surrogate for John Kerry during his 2004 run for U.S. President, and was National Political Director for Rev. Jesse Jackson’s Rainbow PUSH Coalition. Walls previously ran for mayor in 2007 and in 2011. He also ran for Illinois Governor in 2009.
Unlike in previous elections, Walls now has strong financial backing and a more advanced campaign support team. Walls was flanked by Matt Harrington and a diverse group of Aldermanic candidates, being assisted by the Chicago Progressive Candidate’s organization. The Walls for Mayor Campaign plans to spend a minimum of $1.5 million.
At the core of Walls 2015 Mayoral campaign are initiatives intended to establish irreproachable public safety services. Walls noted, “The extreme level of Chicago violence currently gripping our city is unacceptable. It is imperative that we take immediate action to make people feel safe at home, at work, at school and on the streets of Chicago, anytime of the day or night. Therefore, I am calling upon Rahm Emanuel to declare a State of Emergency and alter city policies, accordingly.”
Walls promises, as mayor, to replace Rahm’s concentration on downtown beautification and development with policies that focus on neighborhood infrastructure improvement, balanced economic development, jobs creation, and new revenue generation.
